Greetings Family and Friends,

It is my hope that the New Year has found you highly favored.  As some of you may know, I have been working on a personal documentary project with a few of my colleagues for the past year, and finally the fruits of our labor are in sight.  We have been working on a film made possible by a grant from The Transforming the Community Project (TCP) here at Emory University.  TCP is a five year study on racial make-up and past of Emory.  Every member of the University and community can participate in diverse Community Dialogues, which are comprised of eight meeting sessions, where participates discuss Emory's past, present and future through readings, films, and current events.  Participants are eligible to apply for mini grants upon completion of a dialogues.  The idea is that the mini grant will enhance the Emory community, break down barriers and open up discussions for hard topics such as race.

We are screening the short film during King Week here on Tuesday, January 19th at 6:00pm in Harland Theater, located in the Dobbs University Center on the Campus of Emory University.  There will be an open discussion and reception following the film.

The short film is entitled "The Journey There and Back: Remembering the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Through the Eyes of Emory".  The film highlights the experience of Emory staff and students who attended the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama.  It is approximately 25 minutes.  We would greatly appreciate your support by attending.  You supporting this project is very important to me and it would mean a lot if you attended this event.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  For those out of town/state/country, please enjoy the trailer and I will send you the link of the full film once Emory has upload it to the server.  I have also attached a copy of the event flier.

Hope to see you there,

TCP:

The Transforming Community Project seeks to mobilize individuals in every sector of Emory University in a reflective, fact-driven engagement with the University’s history and current experiences of race, gender, sexuality and other forms of human difference at Emory and beyond. These activities provide opportunities to develop new, concrete strategies to transform the University. All members of the Emory community (staff, faculty, students and alumni) are invited to participate in Community Dialogues; to develop research projects related to Emory’s history and current experiences around diversity; and to use these dialogue and research experiences to effect change in the community at large.
